About us

Three Legged Cross First and Nursery School is a small, friendly village school for children from 2 to 9 years, situated between West Moors and Verwood.  Our school has the benefit of large grounds with a number of field areas and playgrounds, along with a dedicated forest area and pond.

Our school has a family feel with small classes, (our published admission number is 20), and a focus on high achievement within an ethos of ‘learning, perseverance and manners’.

Active learning for the future is promoted using high quality resources to bring learning to life. Our children use the benefits of technology to support their learning in our Apple Mac library area. Weekly forest learning sessions reinforce our commitment to good manners and the application of learnt skills in the outdoor environment.Maths mastery is taught through concrete, pictorial and abstract approaches, backed up with high quality text books to ensure embedded learning.

We make regular visits to the local environment to inspire our children and bring learning to life. Recent visits have included Stonehenge, Corfe Castle, the Titanic Museum in Southampton, the Science Museum in Winchester, the Roman Baths in Bath, Longdown Activity Farm, Kingston Lacey and Pizza Express. Key Stage 2 children also enjoy a residential visit to the Springhead Trust.

We provide hot lunches from a local company with local ingredients. We ensure that the lunch time experience is a high quality social time to practise table manners and learn to enjoy food. Lunchtimes mean china plates, napkins and vegetables in serving bowls at Three Legged Cross. This is a time to consolidate manners in a calm comfortable atmosphere.

We value the sporting life and enjoy a range of different sports. We take part in regular inter school competitions with our local Heath Academy Trust schools. Sports after school clubs, currently dodgeball and football, take place weekly on Mondays and Thursdays.
